Belarus' organizing committee for 2021 IIHF WC in first session
– The 2021 IIHF World Championship which Belarus will co-host with Latvia should be organized at a high level, Belarus' Prime Minister Sergei Rumas said at a meeting of the organizing committee for the 2021 IIHF World Championship in Minsk on 27 February, BelTA has learned.
“This is the first meeting of the organizing committee. Belarus hosted the championship before. The 2014 IIHF World Championship was recognized as one of the best in the history of the International Ice Hockey Federation and also beat the attendance records. In 2021 we will co-host the championship with Latvia. The country is almost ready for the championship. We have ice arenas, sufficient number of hotels and catering facilities. Nevertheless, we must do everything necessary to make sure the upcoming championship is better and more successful than the previous one. We are not lowering the bar,” Sergei Rumas said.
Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, Deputy Chairman of the organizing committee Gennady Savilov said that the preparations for the championship were launched two years ago. “The 2021 IIHF World Championship directorate and organizing committee have been formed. A trilateral agreement was signed with the International Ice Hockey Federation. A bilateral agreement was signed with Latvia. The business plan for the championship is almost ready. A lot has been done and we know exactly what else needs to be done,” he said.
The 2021 IIHF World Championship will take place in Minsk and Riga on 7-23 May. Taking part in the competitions will be 16 teams. Minsk will host 34 games of eight teams, and also two quarterfinals, two semifinals, and medal games.
