Lukashenko urges to eradicate protectionism at national levels in EAEU
– We should eradicate protectionism at national levels in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the summit of the Eurasian Economic Council in Nur-Sultan on 29 May, BelTA has learned.
This year's session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Nur-Sultan marks the fifth anniversary of the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty and 25 years of the Eurasian integration idea.
Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that closer cooperation and an increase in the share of goods made in the EAEU on the common market will give a tangible positive effect. “We should eradicate protectionist solutions at national levels and stop introducing all kinds of prohibitive and restrictive measures. This is how we will manage to build a solid foundation of our union, a guarantee of productive development for the economies partaking in the integration project. Then there will be no problems with accepting new members to the union. They will join this union themselves,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
He emphasized the need to create equal conditions in all areas, including the energy sector. “Right now the interests of certain economic operators, industries or countries are put above,” the Belarusian president said. “Every one of us, from heads of state to experts, should understand that we are building a common market, a common space.”
